Young Recruit

The day you left
you were so young
and immature
but I've been told this
would be no more.
You will have confidence
and learned
respect that you
will have need of in your
next step
The road ahead
will be tough
and long but
you have found
where you belong
Young recruit
is how your known
but not long now
it will be shown
that you have achieved
the lessons taught
and gained the knowledge and
was not lost
Young Marine
you soon will be
with honors and pride
that you have worked
for endlessly
You have met others with
your same dreams
and soon will share a bond
with all Marines
Your group is not
considered large but
it is known as
the best by far.
You have worked hard
and soon you will be
through
to protect the glorious
red, white and blue

September 21 (My Anniversary Gift)
A Dream Come True

June 25th came so swift
it seemed like a lifetime
from the day you signed up
September 06
As a strong mom
I tried to be brave
by making the decision taking
you to the station that day
I felt by doing this
I was giving you to him
instead of you being taken away
from the home where you lived
I made a choice that you would not
see me cry or
my heartbreaking as you
were driving by.
Now 4 weeks left
and then ten days to be home
short as it is,
its what I have known.
You are a man and a Marine
you will become
nothing can take this from you
and what you have done..
Changes in you can be seen
in letters you have sent.
Sometimes I wonder if you know what
they have meant.
Your Dad and I have been proud
of you since day one
always knowing that you can complete what
needs to be done.
I am sure times have been hard
but what would you expect
If it was easy,
all would do
not just the ones who are called the
chosen few.
200,000 plus Marines we have
and in a few short weeks
and a mothers view
the most precious thing in my life
will be one too.
One thing happened on September twenty-one
I married your dad, became his wife
and we started our new life
Few years later on October 01
I gave birth to a wonderful son
who would of thought
what you might do
but becoming a Marine
I never knew.
I never thought
the baby I had
would graduate this day
from a challenge so grand
that when it is all over
you are considered a man
and there is nothing you will
not be able to complete or withstand
September twenty-one will be forever etched
from a wedding anniversary to
a anniversary gift.
A Parris Island
graduation that happens this day.
when you my son
are standing tall
with others that have
been with you through it all.
thats the greatest gift that can be given me
as a mother of a future Marine
Waiting on this day for thirteen weeks
and now it comes to an end
for you, for us, for others
who have been waiting on this date.
Accepting a challenge
only few can do

ALWAYS FAITHFUL

I have tied a yellow ribbon faithfully
on that tree in the yard.
These past weeks you have been gone
have been lonely and sometimes very hard.
I have found love and support from
other Mothers who have been where
I am at,
waiting and wondering how soon
their child will be back,.
Deployment to us is the dreaded word but
we know deep down you were ready to serve
This is what you have trained for in the many
places you have been, and soon my son this
part of your journey will come to an end.
I know one day you may be told
that your time has come again and
I pray that this traininig that I have had
will withstand
I know the support will still be there
from my friends on the board ,
how do I know this I am not real sure.
I know they share hugs, tears and prayer when need be
and if this happens again they will be here for me.
That Hug that I have seen posted by mothers
when their sons have returned
is what keeps me going
because I know at the end of this journey
it's what awaits for me
when you return to the land of the free.
